Bears and adorable cubs in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba, Canada!
Took a tour through the park today, June 4th, 2024, to have a look for some of the black bears in the area. With dandelions painting all the ditches, there was bear sign everywhere. It didn't take long before we found a gorgeous brown colored black bear feeding away. We stayed only a minute before heading off and not to draw too much attention for it. We traveled one of off routes and it too was littered with the yellow flowers. Soon we saw flagging in the vegetation, as well as bear scat....it was only a matter of time. Rounding a curve and sure enough, a beautiful dark colored female........with two cubs of the year with her. We had to pass her at a very close range and were able to watch the family from up the road for a few minutes before leaving. We returned an hour later and she and the cubs were a little further down, we stayed another couple minutes at best and let them feed in peace. A great way to waste the afternoon up at Riding Mountain.

Mischievous grizzly bear cubs, overload of cuteness and mayhem!
Переглядів 92221 день тому
Adolocense of any species brings an element of play that borderlines on mischievous and harmless fun, it is no different with grizzly bear cubs. As cute as they are, they love to play fight, chew on things, rip things down or apart. Years ago I was convinced we had the public entering a closed off area and ripping down my ribbon and knocking over my signage. It happened several times and I fina...

When you work with bears for a living, you get to have your favorites. This young male was one of mine for sure. Born in 2011 to a female bear in the very south of the region, he had a very distinct blonde face as a yearling. He first started showing up on his own, feeding on the dandelions in 2015 as a four year old, and because of his face, I nicknamed him BlondeFace. He was very shy and easi...
Young male grizzlies pair up in the spring to wrestle, travel, feed, and for safety!

A few years ago these two young grizzlies paired up in the very early spring. The one was four years old and was always on the small side, he and his sister denned themselves as yearling when their mom was killed by a boar. The browner of the two, was just two years old and on his own for the first time. Finding a partner in crime who had a lay of the land provided him some safety, and knowledg...

Both these bears have come together several springs for the mating season in th past. In this season, it was July 23rd and the mating season was all but over. The buffalo berries or sherperdia were ripe for the taking, and this location was the best in the valley. The two grizzlies found themselves on a collision course. feeding on the bitter and soapy berries that littered the ditches along th...
Mother lynx has her hands full with three kittens! Northern Alberta, Canada!

While working southeast of Grande Prairie this spring I cam across a mother lynx with her three very big youngsters. With the muddy conditions of the forestry road, they blended in with their surroundings and were hard to see. I was there to monitor for bears but this was a great treat to see. I simply pulled over and watched mom herd up her young and get them to the safety of the trees.
Several grizzly bears converge during the mating season....amazing moment!

It was my role to monitor the grizzly bears in that particular area. With the use of telemetry, I was able to locate two grizzlies that were engaged in the act of courtship. Both bears were five years old and after a few minutes went into the trees. As I fumbled with my equipment, I was getting full signals for four bears on location. With none of them in sight I decide to pull up to where the ...
Springtime in Northern Alberta, connecting with nature and it's wildlife! Bears, lynx, moose, elk!

This April I spent four weeks in Northern Alberta on the land, as a bear and wildlife monitor and my role was to insure safety of the crews, as well as for the wildlife. Over those 28 days, as spring was sprung, the diversity of the wildlife was amazing to see, we were all excited for the new season. Even though I was primarily there to watch for bear activity, there was so much more to see and...
Why is this bear tracking me? Not for the reasons you think. (April 22, 2024 Northern Alberta)

On April 22, 2024, while patroling the area around the worksite for any bear activity, I come across this black bear. I had just walked up the adjacent cutline from the river and it wasn't until I looked back and saw a bear bedded down, at the closest I would say 50-60m unknowningly. With the wind that day, my scent never directly crossed this bear's nose at this point but it got up and knew so...
Black bear in northern Alberta is pretty excited about spring! April 21, 2024

I was in northern Alberta monitoring for both black and grizzly bears that would travel the cutlines and would encounter workers in the field. On this day, this youngster emerged from the trees and seemed pretty stoked to be out of the den and getting a rub down with the hydro polls, before taking off.

On April 27th, 2024, this beautiful strapping male black bear wandered down the cutline, not far from the work zone that had personel on foot working close by. My role was to deal with and monitor both black bears and grizzlies should they show up. Many thing managing bears is about relocating, euthanizing, or hitting them with rubber slugs, bean bags, paintballs, and/or shooting off cracker an...
Alberta black bear pretty lethargic out of den this spring! April 28th, 2024

Working as a bear specialist up in northern Alberta, my role was to keep the bears away from the work zones. But as much as it is about keeping the people safe from the bears, I believe is protecting the bears from the people just as much. As for this bear, it was pretty chill and really lethargic, moving about the area with no hurry as the dry and cool temps hadn't allowed for much to green up...

Hope you enjoy this video, along with the BEAR GUY channel as a whole. Thanks for tuning in, and I can't wait for the 2024 bear season to start!

This female was/is such a beautiful bear. She would only be seen for a week or two a summer, choosing to stay back country away from human activity. When she did venture to the front country, she was usually traveling with cubs, and usually they were yearlings. Her reasons for showing up were to take advantage of the food sources now that her cubs were getting bigger and requiring more calories...

40 years ago, I knew I was being stalked while walking down a trail at Glacier National Park when forest went dead silent. I did what wasn’t supposed to do, ran down the trail for about 5 miles and stopped running when I could hear the birds again.
